In 2025 we are excited to be returning to a stand alone event in an exciting new format for both individuals and teams at Ruapuna Raceway. The event is focused on participation as well as performance. You can come along with a racing bike aiming to be at the front of the race or ride a mountain aiming for the satisfaction of just completing the event. As well as the individual race there are two relay options. The first is a regular team relay comprising of either 2 or 3 members with 1 or 2 runners and a cyclist each doing an individual leg of a duathlon. The second team race is a mixed team relay with 2 boys and 2 girls per team with each team member doing a very short duathlon before tagging their team mate (see details below). The mixed team relay is an opportunity for individual athletes to do a second race and/or for this in regular teams to have a go with the distances being short.

SCHOOL PRIZES: there will be a points scoring system where every athlete racing receives at least 1 point so please encourage as many students to come along to participate. Points can be accrued via individuals and teams. Refer to the prizes section below.

How it will work:

Individual race: A short duathlon 1.9km Run / 9.5km Bike / 1.9km run

AWD Tri - TBC

Regular relay: 2-3 Team members (1 or 2 runners and a cyclist) each doing individual legs over the distances of Run 1.9km / Bike 9.5km Bike / Run 1.9km

Mixed Team Relay: All athletes in the individual race are also encouraged to do the Mixed Team Relay (MTR). The mixed team relay is made up of 4 athletes with 2 females and 2 males each completing a short 900m Run - 3km Bike - 900m Run before tagging their team mate. To have an official team students can only be from 2 schools for single sex schools or 1 school for co-ed schools. Ideally athletes stay in their age group but can age up, for example if you have 3 Under16 athletes and 1 Under14 athlete then younger athlete can be drafted into the under16 team. For students/schools who cannot make up an official team they can join others to make up an unofficial team (when entering this is a “Team - mixed (any ages)”. For students who do not have a team or only have 2-3 team members we will help facilitate full teams of 4 on race day.

VOLUNTEERS - to make this event happen we need volunteers to help with marshalling, set up, pack down and other tasks. If you can help please put your name down in the form below. Schools entering 3 or more students are required to supply a marshal.
